The May 28, 2002 re-opening of Dog Beach is an excellent example
of how great things can happen when government and a group of dedicated citizens work together for a common goal. This was
exemplified by the State of Florida Division of Parks and Recreation , the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, SOODA
and the 2,388 citizens who signed petitions asking the government to allow dogs to run off-leash on the Dog Beach sandbar.
Members of SOODA worked diligently for 28 months to make Dog Beach a reality. Dog owners and non-dog owners alike enjoy Dog
Beach for shelling, sunsets, and sand. SOODA Members are registered volunteers with Lee County Parks and Recreation participating
in the first ever official daily "Adopt-A-Park" program. To learn more about SOODA and how you can help ensure leash
free areas for dogs please contact the group's representatives at S.O.O.D.A. Inc. PO Box # 1112
